An egg works in a lake as well as a river

Egg patterns get thought of as river flies, but plenty wash down into the lakes and trout cruising the inflows and drop-offs pick them up. Fished on a long leader with a slow figure-of-eight, or hung static under an indicator, a small egg is a genuinely good autumn and winter option on the Snowy Mountains impoundments. Pink with an orange spot is on the softer side, which suits the clear, cold water you get up there at that time of year.
