A bugger covers everything. Depending on how you fish it, it reads as a leech, a yabby, a large nymph or a small baitfish, which is why Russell Blessing's 1967 marabou-tailed original has never gone out of a fly box since. Olive is the natural, low-key end of the range: reach for it in clear water and bright light where a black profile can look too stark. The gold tungsten bead gets it down and adds a jigging kick on the pause. Strip it, swing it, or dead drift it under an indicator like an oversized nymph.
