French-style nymphs are built thin on purpose: a neat tungsten bead and a tight, slim body so the fly drops through current instead of being pushed along by it. That gets you to the fish quickly on a long leader with direct contact, which is the whole point of the method. The pink adds a trigger without adding bulk. Fish it as the heavy fly on a French or euro leader in fast, deep runs where a bulkier nymph never reaches the bottom.
