A big mayfly, for when a big mouthful is what they want

The green drake is the largest mayfly most Northern Hemisphere anglers will ever see, close to half an inch of insect, and its brief hatch is the week every trout in the river looks up. Those particular naturals are not on Australian water, so here it earns its keep differently: as a big, high-floating searching dry for fast broken runs, and as the fly to show a fish that has ignored everything smaller. Fish it on an overcast afternoon into the evening, when the biggest fish are most willing to commit to something that size.
