An unweighted nymph does things a beaded one cannot. It can be fished slowly over a weed bed without dragging into it, hung a few inches under a dry where a heavy fly would pull the dry under, and drifted in the top of the water column to fish taking emergers rather than grubbing on the bottom. Use it as the top dropper above something heavier, or as a single fly to a visible fish in shallow water.
