White is the baitfish colour. It reads as a galaxiid, a small trout or a school of fry pushed up against a bank, which is exactly what larger trout key on through summer and again when fry are about. It is also the easiest colour to see, so you can watch the fly and see the follow and the eat, which is worth a lot when you are learning how fast to strip. Best in clear water on an intermediate or sinking line.
