Olive is what most of the things a big trout eats actually look like: galaxias, juvenile trout, mudeyes and anything else living in weed and on a gravel bottom. On clear water, where a black fly can read as a hole in the light and a bright one puts fish down, olive gives you presence without alarm. Fish it slower than you think, with pauses long enough for the fly to sink and turn, because that is when a following fish commits.
