The red on this one is a trigger, not an imitation. Predatory fish key on it the way they key on the flash of a wounded fish, and pairing it with a black body gives you a hard outline and a provocation in the one fly. That combination is worth having when fish are following and refusing, or when you want a reaction strike rather than a considered eat. Best in stirred water, low light, and anywhere a straight natural has stopped drawing a response.
