A dark fly is easier for a trout to see from below against a bright sky than a pale one, which is why black patterns come into their own in the middle of a clear day and again at last light when everything is backlit. This is the Klinkhammer emerger silhouette in that darker dressing, on a barbless hook so it comes out cleanly. Fish it as a single dry to a working fish, or as the visible top fly with something small hanging below it.
