A tag sits at the tail rather than the head, which changes what a fish sees: a dark body with the trigger trailing behind it, rather than a bright head pulling a body along. On pressured water that difference is worth having, because fish that have started refusing hot-spot jigs will often still take a tag. Otherwise the job is the same as any weighted jig, getting deep quickly and staying there. Worth carrying alongside the Pink Hot Spot rather than instead of it.
