A tag sits at the tail rather than the head or the thorax, so a fish following the fly sees a dark body with a spot of colour trailing it. That is a different proposition to a bright bead leading the way, and it is often what gets a take from a fish that has started ignoring hot spots. Pink is the loud version of that trigger, best in coloured water and on rainbows. Fish it on the point of a two-nymph rig and let the weight do the work.
