Freshwater shrimp live in weed, so fish it there

Scuds and freshwater shrimp spend their lives in and around weed beds, and trout that have worked that out will patrol the edges picking them off. The flashback gives the fly a highlight that separates it from the green background rather than blending into it, which is the difference between being seen and being missed. Fish it slowly along weed margins in lakes, or dead drift it through weedy runs in rivers. Small and slow beats big and fast here.
