Fulling Mill Booby Fly - Black

A floating fly on a sinking line, which sounds wrong and is not

Two foam eyes at the head make this fly buoyant, and that is the entire point. Put it on a fast sinking line with a short leader, let the line settle on the bottom, and the fly hovers a foot or two above it, right in front of fish holding deep. Long pulls with long pauses let it rise and dive on every stop, which is what provokes the take. Black is the choice for the deepest water and the flattest light, where an outline matters more than a colour.
