Brushed synthetic fibre gives a fly bulk and a fat, water-pushing profile without much weight, which is exactly what you want for cod: a big silhouette that can be worked slowly around timber. Black is the colour for the tannin and turbid water most cod live in, and for fishing into the evening when a fish is working on outline and vibration. It doubles as a yabby profile on a slow retrieve. Tied on a Gamakatsu SL12, so it holds up to a serious fish.
