Why possum fur

Possum is prized by tyers for reasons that all matter in an emerger: the fur is light, spiky and holds air among the guard hairs, so the fly sits in the film with a fuzzy, breathing outline instead of a hard edge. This is the claret version of the natural pattern, and it is the one to try when fish have looked at the standard colour and gone back down. Barbless.
