WHAT IS THE RIGHT TYPE OF FILTRATION FOR MY NEEDS?
When choosing a water filtration method for hiking, there are several options to consider, each with its pros and cons. Here is a buyer's guide to help you decide which is best for your needs:
UV Light Purifiers
UV light purifiers are compact and effective against all pathogens, including viruses. They are ideal for international travel and single or small-group use. However, they require batteries, do not filter solid particles, and are not suitable for very dirty water.
Gravity Filters
Gravity filters are great for larger groups as they filter large volumes of water efficiently and remove most pathogens, but not viruses. They are easy to use, and work well with natural water sources, but can require regular maintenance.
Pump Filters
Pump filters, such as the MSR Guardian, provide thorough filtration, including virus removal. They are best for high-risk water sources and group use but are heavier, require effort to operate, and range from affordable to expensive.
Chemical Treatments
