The McGoo came out of Ireland and was developed into its current form by Ballarat anglers, and it has been on Victorian and Tasmanian leaders ever since. This is the weighted version, which is why it sits on the point: the copper tungsten bead takes it down while lighter flies work above it. The slim profile keeps it credible to selective fish without giving up its pulling power. One tip worth knowing, in bright light or on spooky fish, snip a strand of flash from each side of the tail.
