3 Days Fly Fishing Remote Geehi Trout Streams | Closing Weekend Camping in Southern Kosciuszko
With the 24/25 NSW trout season coming to an end, Pat headed out for one last multi-day fly fishing soirée. Covering immaculate new water, bush bashing through ancient forest and escaping plummeting temps in a hand built stone hut. Join Pat as he puts a ribbon on the trout season, all under the watchful eye of Kosciuszko's breathtaking Main Range.
Wide open riffled flats with a million dollar backdrop. High spirits with scenery and water that couldn't look more promising.
Looks can always be deceiving and day one left Pat scrounging for almost every trick in his anglers arsenal.
A meticulous day of combing water finally resulted in success... A healthy hen brown trout. A hard earned and much needed morale boost.
Geehi Flats campground offered some pristine open views of the western fall of Kosciuszko's Main Range. A perfect location to fire up the Snowpeak and settle in for a frosty night.
Temps the following morning dropped to a frigid -8°C before the sun poked over the ridge to thaw the valley floor (and a pair of frozen stiff waders).
Day two saw Pat take a gamble on bush bashing into a remote stream nearby. Prehistoric scenery, idyllic waters, total isolation and not a fish to be found...
After abandoning plans of camping by the river-with-no-fish, Keebles Hut provided welcome refuge for the evening of night two.
The warm flicker of river stone and steam of anglers boots, a scene recreated countless times since the huts construction in 1942.
Third for the trip but final for the season, this young brown will be the spark that keeps the flame of fly fishing burning till October.
