Midges swarm and ball up on the surface in numbers, and fish stop taking them individually and start taking the clusters. That is what this represents, which is why it works on flat calm days when you would swear there is nothing on the water at all. Winter and spring on the Snowy Mountains lakes is its season. Fish it alone, or as a trap door with a buzzer or small nymph slung underneath.
