The drift matters more in an evening rise

Evening caddis activity can be frantic, and that is exactly when most people fish badly. With hundreds of naturals on the water a trout has no reason to chase anything moving unnaturally, so the drift matters more than it does at any other time of day. Get above the fish, land it softly, and let it come down dead. This is the standard version of the pattern, for when you are not worried about a barb.
