A cased caddis spends its life inside a tube of grit and stick, and a trout picking one up is really seeing the soft pale larva peeping out of the front. That contrast is what this pattern reproduces, and it is why it outfishes a plain cased imitation. The jig hook and tungsten bead put it hard on the bottom, which is where cased caddis live and where fish look for them. A sound point fly at any time of year.
