After 30mm of rain, Pat slipped into a tiny remote stream in the state forest to see if the trout were on the chew. Dirty water, tight casting, mayfly hatches and wild trout on a fibreglass 2-weight — this is exactly the kind of fly fishing that makes small streams so addictive.
Fishing a little Vision Glassic glass rod with dry droppers, streamers and dry flies, every fish felt incredible. The trout weren’t huge, but on ultralight tackle in skinny water, they didn’t need to be. We also stumbled across spawning trout in the shallows, watched some amazing natural behaviour, and spent the afternoon picking apart pockets, waterfalls, and undercut banks in search of fish.
