The hardest shape a trout can see from below

Trout looking up read a hopper as a shape against the sky before they read anything else, and black gives them the hardest version of that shape. It holds up in flat light, under cloud, and late in the evening, when a tan body goes vague against a bright surface. The orange foam top means the angler keeps track of it regardless. Black also covers the crickets and beetles coming off the same banks, which is worth something on water that has watched a lot of hoppers go past.
