Fulling Mill Mrs Simpson

Layered pheasant rump, and a shape that reads as almost anything

Built in New Zealand in the 1930s and named after Wallis Simpson, this one is tied with pairs of cock pheasant rump feathers laid along the body rather than a wing, which gives it a broad, barred silhouette unlike anything else in the box. Over there it stands in for a bully; here that same dark, bulky outline works as a mudeye, a yabby or a gudgeon depending on how you move it. Fish it slow and deep along weed edges and rocky margins.
