A time capsule of the High Country Huts in Namadgi, Kosciuszko, Victorian Alps, and Tasmania.

Author Klaus Hueneke has created this book to gives his readers a taste of some of the dramatic landscapes in the Australian high country where the landscape is is a highly changeable environment. Many of the images have been taken over a 35 year period on numerous walks, ski tours and tours stretching from the Brindabellas near Canberra, down to the Snowy Mountains, over the border into the Victorian Alps and across the Bass Strait to end up at Frenchmans Cap in Tasmania.

Many of the images are present in mini photo essays going over several pages or as integrated double-page spreads. Essays include snow gums in various guises, winter on the Main Range, a long walk into the heart of Namadgi, huts built for movie making, the spectacular environs of Cradle Mt, the great variety of huts on the Bogong High Plains, rebuilding huts in Tasmania, hut interiors, close up of alpine life, fire and its dazzling aftermath and evening light over the mountains.
